So, naturally mom and I did some research and found out that there is a farm not far from her, north of Bonham called Walker's Blueberries. We were thinking we would go tomorrow, but when we called to check she was going to be closed to go to a funeral (always smart to call ahead at PYO, pick your own, farms) therefore we were only left with the option of dragging ourselves and Jake (always good to build some character in him when we can) out of bed at the crack of dawn to go pick blueberries (we got there a little before 7 a.m., which during summer is to dang early if you ask me).
It was perfect. We were the only ones there...it was cool...the sun was just rising...the cows were mooing in the nearby pasture...birds were chirping...and blueberries were everywhere!
Blueberries grow on small, bushy trees/shrubs that are not too much over 6 foot. They make for really easy picking, you want "cloudy" berries that fall into your hand when you jiggle them (we were instructed by Ms. Walkers daughter who came out around 7:30, see mom's blog for more 'rules').

Because we were on a tight time schedule, with appointments in Sherman at 9 am, 10:30 am, and then back in Bonham at 2:30 pm, we picked like crazy for about an hour and got almost 2 gallons. Not bad. She charged us for a gallon and a half at $18. Even better!
We were smart and took our own gallon-sized plastic baggies so that what we picked is ready to go straight to the freezer, although she does have half gallon and gallon sized buckets for your use. (Although, if you don't bring bags to take them home in then what do you do I wonder?).
